Mr Waqas ul Hasan is CEO, Karandaaz Pakistan. Mr Hasan has rich impact investment experience and specializes in private sector development and use of wide range of development finance instruments (credit guarantees, blended finance, policy advice and technical assistance) for SME finance, Microfinance, digital financial inclusion, climate finance and infrastructure finance.
Mr Hasan has played instrumental role in the design, setup and capitalization of number of innovative financial sector institutions in Pakistan namely Karandaaz Pakistan, Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company, InfraZamin Pakistan, Parwaaz Financial Services Ltd and the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited. In addition, he has special interest in green investments and building a diverse portfolio of green transactions at Karandaaz.
Mr Hasan serves on the Board of Directors of Raast Payments Pakistan Limited (RPPL) and is the Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Cashless Pakistan Steering Committee. Mr Hasan has worked for the Asian Development Bank, UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office and in the public sector. Previously, Mr Hasan has advised on financial sector projects in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Bangladesh and Jordan. Mr Hasan holds a Master’s degree in Finance from London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. He was conferred Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence) by the President of Pakistan for his services in development finance.
