The SME Finance Forum Sustainable Innovation Hub was formed to address the issues facing SMEs as they move toward sustainability, including access to financial and non-financial services that incentivize and empower them to adopt climate-smart business practices. Financial Institutions have a key role to play in both motivating and enabling SMEs to participate in sustainable practices through the provision of sustainable finance products and capacity building support, while ensuring the burden being placed on SMEs for implementation and reporting is not undue or unrealistic.
Over the past year, the Sustainable SME Finance Innovation Hub conducted several discussions on ESG reporting, examining obstacles to data collection and reporting faced by SMEs and the financial institutions serving them, and clarifying complexities arising from multiple ESG frameworks, taxonomies, and guidance documents. Furthermore, the Hub initiated a data collection process, gathering insights from network members to better assess SMEFF’s impact within sustainable SME finance.
Findings from the survey will be presented at this year's Global SME Finance Forum Innovation Hub meeting, where results and analysis will inform the discussion and shape the learning agenda for the upcoming year.
