Country Director, World Bank

Satu Kahkonen, a Finnish national, joined the Bank in 2000 as Sr. Economist in the Africa Region and has since held various operational and managerial positions in different regions and a global practice. Her most recent assignment is as Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste in the East Asia and Pacific Region, based in Jakarta.

In her new position Satu’s top priorities will be to (i) lead the strategic dialogue to shape and implement operational engagements in line with the Bank’s focus on speed, scale and impact in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, and Eswatini working closely with development partners and diverse stakeholders; (ii) oversee the country offices in the CMU and develop a coherent and effective country team working closely with IFC and MIGA, supportive of staff career development and ensuring an inclusive and respectful work environment; and (iii) as a member of the AFE Leadership and Management teams, contribute to delivering regional and country programs and engagements that reflect the Bank’s new vision and mission and is anchored in country priorities.
