Nonzuzo Makanda has more than 14 years’ experience in the financial services industry. She is a finance executive with banking, investment, fintech and asset management experience, the founder and chairperson of the National Financial Literacy Association and National Financial Literacy Advocacy (NFLA) (Pty) Ltd. NFLA is an organisation that crafts enterprise development strategies for MSMEs operating in townships and rural areas to assist them with industry compliance, access to markets and access to finance in order to promote employment opportunities. NFLA also promotes financial inclusion through its personal finance management interventions such as financial literacy capacity building.

Nonzuzo holds a B. Com in Economics and Finance, B. Com Honours in Business management specialising in investments. She also holds an M. Com in Economics.

Nonzuzo is a former secretariat member of the presidential youth working group under the economic transformation work stream. She also served as an Exco member of the Thabo Mbeki Youth Hub. She also served as the Audit Committee chairperson for both former Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) and she has played a critical role in the merger process. She also sat on the Joint Oversight Forum chaired by the minister of Small Business Development that was an apex structure that made decisions about the merger. She is currently serving as the Chairperson of the board of Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA). She also serves as an Executive committee member of the Women Economic Assembly (WECONA) MSME cluster. She is a member of the innovation

development working group for the BRICS women business alliance (WBA). The initiative seeks to promote innovation development for women led businesses in South Africa in order for them to trade and connect with other women from other BRICS member states.

Nonzuzo is passionate about inclusive development that supports financial inclusion of MSMEs operating in remote areas, women and youth development initiatives.
