Thanduxolo “Thando” Mlanjana is a Senior Economist in the Financial Inclusion Directorate at the National Treasury of South Africa with over 8 years of work experience in strategy and policy development. He co-leads the development of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, turning policy into an action plan with a dedicated MSME pillar to support growth and inclusion of MSMEs, including underserved and informal MSMEs.
Before joining the National Treasury, Thando worked in management consulting at Dalberg and Genesis. He advised banks, card networks, and development partners on MSME finance and payments. His portfolio covered MSME acceptance and usage of digital payments, market and sector diagnostics, bank MSME value propositions, and climate finance solutions using additionality to crowd in private capital.
Thando holds an MA in Economics from Fordham University and a BCom(Hons) in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria.
