Executive Director, Ticano SME Finance
Mr Opelo Motswagae is the Executive Director at Ticano SME Finance , a regulated Impact focused Supply Chain Financing & Investment Advisory firm.
He has 18 years’ experience in corporate management and business strategy acquired through various critical roles in Engineering Consultancy, Mining and Construction, Project Management and Corporate Banking sector.
Prior to establishing and actively managing Ticano , Mr Motswagae was working as a Transaction Banker – Multinational Corporates at Stanbic Bank Botswana until June 2015, driving trade finance structured solutions and cash management strategy. Previously, he worked as a Transaction Banking Sales Manager: Global Corporates at Standard Chartered Bank and as a Relationship Executive: Mining & Energy Business at First National Bank Botswana. Additionally, he previously worked as a Project Manager and Geoflux & Anglo Technical JV specializing in end-to-end mining and construction consultancy supervision.
Mr Motswagae graduated with a First Class Bachelors (honors) in Civil Engineering from University of Greenwich UK and, he also completed a further qualification in Strategic Management (master’s in science) fron University of Derby UK. He has since acquired fundamental exposure to the essence of strategy in business. He has an additional certification in PRINCE2 Foundation and Short-Term Insurance, from Institute of Insurance South Africa.
He has an additional certification in PRINCE2 Foundation and Short-Term Insurance, from Institute of Insurance South Africa. He is currently pursuing a Certification in Supply Chain Finance from London Institute of Banking & Finance.
In 2022 Motswagae successfully completed a project by Finmark Trust - Innovative Financing Solutions for Small Holder Farmers in Botswana and Lesotho.
Mr Motswagae is a Board Member and Chair of Audit Committee, and a member of Social & Ethics Committee at Botswana Ash and Botash SA. He has strict Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) focus, ensuring companies he leads to act responsibly.
